I am excited to announce the latest updates to Network Operations Management with NOM 2018.05.
Following up our 2018.02 release, in our NOM 2018.05 release we have added even greater value to NOM and extended our leadership by:

  • Continuing to lower the mean-time-to-resolution (MTTR) when diagnosing performance issues
  • Further simplifying deployment of our solution by expanding container deployment into our NOM Premium Edition
  • Keeping your topology current by handling the motion of your wireless access points at scale
  • Effortlessly handling SNMP trap storms without creating unnecessary correlation events
  • Increased focus on customer enhancement requests
  • and more...

Let’s dig in and look at a few of these new enhancements in NOM 2018.05.

Enhanced Change-Correlated Performance Views (Diagnostic Analytics)

While most network management solutions can display a time-series performance graph on a dashboard, only NOM overlays configuration changes on the same graph for quick correlation without any user-created analytics.  With the 2018.05 release, we’ve also added the ability to drill into a comparative view of the configuration, directly from this graph!

Simply double-click on the configuration change bar on the performance graph, and you will be able to see the specific changes that were made.

These improvements continue to lower MTTR for network operators by providing them access to configuration, and performance data on the same chart.  Our competitors make you navigate menus and screens, or even switch tools to access the same data!

During our early-release program, a global manufacture who experienced this new capability said, “[this] a nice feature that will have value in live environments.”  We couldn’t agree more.  As the only software vendor who provides this capability, only operators using NOM can enjoy it.

Containers simplify Deployments in a Hybrid World

As the IT world is becoming increasingly hybrid, IT infrastructures are not simply on-premise or off-premise, but are both.  Here at Micro Focus IT Operations Management we understand this. So, we are incrementally increasing our ability to deploy our solutions in containers and including REST APIs to facilitate ease of deployment and movement.

Previously, NOM Express was made available via a container deployment.  Now with NOM Premium, our users have the choice between deploying with containers or the classic deployment for either edition.

Wireless Monitoring at Scale

As Wireless Access Points (WAP) move from one Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) to another, the topology in the management tool needs to keep up to retain its value to users.  IN NOM 2018.05, not only do we keep the topology for your WLCs current, we can do it at scale.  NOM 2018.05 can handle the movement of 10,000 WAPs simultaneously, and it can also handle full-scale deployment of 6,000 WAPs per WLC.  NOM detects the movement of the WAPs in many ways: by trap, polling, or on a scheduled re-discovery.  Either way, the operators will always have an accurate topology of the wireless network which they can trust.

This WAP movement capability makes it possible for NOM to collect performance data from WAP without data loss due to movement.  Without it, continuous WAP performance monitoring is just not possible.

Taming the Trap Storms

Trap storms are a reality in an enterprise network, but they don’t have to impact your management infrastructure.  With NOM 2018.05, we tame these storms by summarizing the storm in a single event.  The trap-storm event captures the number of traps, the trap rate, and the duration of the storm in one easy event that is easy to understand.

One customer who participated in the early release program told us, “This is AWESOME! “  (Yes, he actually used all capital letters.)

The NOM Idea Exchange

With the recent introduction of the NOM Idea Exchange we are now taking crowd-sourced input from our user community.  Presently, about one quarter of the ideas submitted have been accepted into our roadmap!  This provides valuable input to our future planning to assure we are keeping product roadmap aligned with our customer’s needs.  IN the NOM 2018.05, we integrated a half-dozen new capabilities sourced directly to input from our user community, and we’re just getting started.

Conclusion

With the only change-correlated performance graphs in the industry, a vision for the future for operating in dynamic hybrid environments, the ability to monitor the performance of a full-scale wireless network, and delivery of even more customer-initiated enhancements, the NOM 2018.05 release is our most advanced release to date.
