Re: How to discover router and switches hp ddmi

Hi,

From your network side, make sure;

 the device is snmp-managed

 the device replies ping requests from DDMI server

  the device replies to snmp requests from DDMI server

From DDMI side;

make sure, snmp credentials of the router/switch is defined in one of the SNMP profiles, and this profile is assigned to the device group, in which at least one of the IPs is listed.

If the router or switch is not snmp-managed;

  model/type of the device will not be recognized properly (rulebase related)

  there may be multiple "unmanaged" devices in the database for the same physical device.

Please let us know if this info is enough or if you need more input.

Re: How to discover router and switches in hp ddmi

Hi,

the items I listed are basic prerequisites to discover router/switch as snmp-managed devices. Once you satisfy those conditions, you will see quite detailed model of router/switch devices in the database.

What type of prerequisites do you have in your mind?

Hello, Thanks for the reply. It seems I can enable the discovery with the details you have provided. Thank you.

Also, apart from these, Do we need to add our DDMI server IP in the "Access List" of router / switch ?

Hi,

Yes, if your routers/switches have "access list", you have to add DDMI server IP addr into this list. Otherwise, DDMI cannot run snmp queries, and will not be able to read "Device MIB".
