displayName

Hello

Can we change the displayName attribute?

A client wants to have fullName + (cn) as the displayName because it's
hard to know which user it is in Access Request when requesting for
direct reports and they have the same name.

Greetings,
As Geoffrey outlined, you can adjust this in configutil -> Misc tab
-> User Display Name field. Keep in mind that you have to use the key
value of User/Identity attributes. There are certain attributes that
can not be used.

This confused the heck out of me, at first. We imported first/last name
into custom attrs, since we had multivalued data in our vault, and the
schema in IDG has it single valued. So we made our own.

But then we 'lost' displayName. We assumed it was a real attribute till
we figured it out.

Instead we flattened via ECMA the MV'ed data and just took the first
value for first/last name so we got display names.

Steve, is the exact syntax specified for what is allowed in that field?
As you noted, it is the internal schema name (not the schema display
name) that you reference. And Ithink it uses pipe pipe || or the like
to concat the two values.

What else is allowed?

This looks to me like an Oracle PL/SQL string. || is concatenation. I imagine it supports any of the string functions. (trim, substr, replace, etc)
I also imagine displayName and desription values need to match the backend SQL language.

Be nice to see that specified. Possibly even in the docs, you know?

You want to write the Cool Solution about this? Seems like the only way
to get the docs we want, is to write them ourselves. (Having written 2
books, and 450 articles, around 1 million words on the topics, I feel ok
saying that).

I wish the doc writers well, and know how hard it is, how much they have
to do, yet those are just excuses, since as a customer I want useful docs.

If I was ever to get an invite to write a Cool Solution, here it is. From the "Father-of-Most-Cool-Solutions" himself.

I am honored to accept this challenge.

Excellent. Whatever it takes to get more content out there!

Hello

This works for me in my test environment after restarting Tomcat and
doing a collection/publication.

COALESCE(first_name,n' ') || ' ' || COALESCE(last_name,n'') || ' (' ||
substring(dn, 'cn=(.+?),.+') || ')'

Will try this at the client as well.
