Forgot to mention: monitor the mem usage in the status bar. Once max is near
the above setting and used approaches 80% of max, I restart Designer because
that's where things start to get *really* slow in my experience.

I have noticed that as well. I GC a lot (Hit the trash can icon) and as
you get to the higher end, things slow down. GCing by hand buys you time.

I happen to stay there a lot, since I am trying to force leaks, so once
I know I am going to restart, I open a ton of things, close them, till I
break it, then report a memory dump to Development.

Right now they are ignoring me, saying they will look after 4.5 is out.
Argh. Why not fix it for 4.5? It is always .NEXT...

Most of those with pictures, since this Jim we are talking about...
Lets keep it simple. 🙂

I agree, it gets slow, and I have been nagging people at NetIQ to try
and get some attention paid to this, with little success.

And for those who do not get it, I have the utmost respect for Jim. His
Universal Password tool is literally the best things since sliced bread!
If you have not seen his truly awesome web site for LDAP/IDM/etc
stuff, you are not very good at IDM. 🙂

I just like to give him a hard time.

Re: Designer is Too Slow!

Thanks for the inputs.

I will try some of the ideas and provide feedback.

I am on SSD and I agree, if you do not have one go and get one.
For this client I am stuck on Windows.

Thanks
-jim

Which in my experience works equally well/fast as the linux version. Slightly
different issues here and there, but overall same, same...

I feel your pain, running it on Windows 8.1, i7, SSD, 32GB it's sloooow.

It runs much better on clients that still use Windows 2003 than my
Thinkpad W530.

It would make me so happy if they made a 64bit Designer, so happy!

Ya me too. Partner briefings indicate it is coming in IDM 4.5 which is
due in the near future. 🙂 Looking forward to it greatly.

What would also be good is to have it available on OSX. I received
this email from bugzilla the other day, but I am not quite sure what it
means...

Re: Designer is Too Slow!

I received the same email. What does OOB mean? "Out-Of-The-Box"?

I got the IDM 4.5 DVD but I can only see Designer for Windows and for
Linux. No OSX there 😞

Jose Luis

No clue what OOB means in this context. Your notion makes as little
sense as anything else I can come up with.

I THINK they mean it needs to be post 4.5, but they do have a specific
task for that. OUt of Bounds? I dunno.

Alas, no Mac version yet.
