Great! The AD driver has proper PowerShell support now:

Yes and no.

Apparently the IDMExchange service needs to be
compiled/built/integrated/something with a PowerShell module.

Therefore only the Exchange and basic AD powershell commandlets are
supported.

I too thought it would be arbitrary powershell which would be truly
excellent. (I.e. O365 provisioning would be a piece of cake) but it is
definitly a step closer.

Just tried it. Needs the IDM exchange service to be installed and
running. No compilation required!

The only other dependency for the service is the exchange management
tools even to execute only ad cmdlets.

I think you misunderstand, unless I misunderstood. I am told the guys
who wrote the iDM Exchange service need to do something "compile" or the
like to the service to support other commandlets.

Are you suggesting you tried some wildly different PS commandlet and it
worked? Which would be great if true.

I tried a very basic AD cmdlet (Set-ADAccountControl) and initially
complained the service was not installed. After installing that it
complained about the missing exchange snapins. So I had to install the
exchange management service after which everything played well.

The documentation says that this (AD cmdlets) should work.

What we want to know is if another (non AD or Exchange) cmdlet (for
example servermanager, sharepoint or Office365) will work. The
documentation says no. Is there a way to hack it (via an embedded
import-module or add-snapin command for example)?

The other questions I have are:

* Are results returned as a nodeset or plain text?
* Can one use built-in powershell cmdlets? The documentation doesn't
mention this explicitly but the AD example has an example of using
ConvertTo-SecureString
* Are pipelines supported?
* Are only Exchange 2010 cmdlets supported? The link in the NetIQ
documentation points to Exchange 2010.

Comments on the docs themselves might be helpful. NetIQ seems to have
some new doc writers (or maybe they've repurposed the old ones, I dunno).
If the docs are incomplete, unhelpful, or need improving, letting them
know may help.

The old one is still there (Hi Jytosana) but she has two or three others
helping her now. So yes, comments would be wise.

Though to be fair, I was reading the 4.02 docs and see that comments I
dropped in to complain about in 4.0x docs are still not addressed. So I
resubmitted on 4.02 docs.

So basically confirms that it is limited to AD and Exchange, once you
have your AD side properly configured. Oh well. I keep hoping...

Hm. Well, that was supposed to be released with 4.02, so it should be in
there.
