Metadirectory Engine Location

Hi,

We are trying to install the IDM 4.5 Engine & Remote Loader Service Pack
3 4.5.3 when installing we are getting error "Select a valid install
location for the Metadirectory Engine" irrespective of what ever the
path we choose. Can some one help?

Paths tried: D:\Novell\nds\DIBFiles
D:\Novell\nds\lib\dirxml

Thanks
Siva ram T

Re: Metadirectory Engine Location

Hi,

First of all make sure you use "Run as Administrator" when installing
any components on windows.

What are those path an installation path of?
The normal path would be to just point at D:\Novell
If you are installing from scratch do you use the integrated installer
or do you install all components one by one?
A guess is that eDir is not installed and you try to install IDM, that
will fail since IDM is dependent on an eDir to be present locally.

Re: Metadirectory Engine Location

Yes i am running as administrator.

The paths which mentioned are existing eDirectory/IDV server(4.5)
all exe like dxcmd are exist under D:\Novell\NDS

As per the documentation i am trying to upgrade the IDM engine from 4.5
to 4.5.3(https://dl.netiq.com/Download?buildid=Rjs_0SapjGg~)

Re: Metadirectory Engine Location

The installer should detect the current installation path by it self.
I suspect there is some issue with rights that stop it from doing that.

D:\Novell\NDS seems like the correct path for you.

What you could do is to do a totally manual patching, after all it is
just a replacement of files.
Or open a SR to get the suspected rights issue sorted out.
It could also be that IDM was originally installed to another path and
has been moved, the patch reads the original installation path.

Isn't this now under drive:\netiq rather than drive:\novell as of IDM
4.5 on Windows?

You can be right: it can be result of uncompleted re-branding.
RemoteLoader installation put part of the files to c:\Novell and another
part to c:\NetIQ

I think I ran into this recently on the Windows platform and it was a bug in the installer.
IIRC I had to manually patch. I have a few cobwebs around this though and it was an older patch level.

I similarly recall something about an installer or patch installer that
didn't work right with anything other than C:\Novell as the root path for
the install. Maybe that's back again?

Best to open an SR at this point.

That was for the Remote Loader patch, not sure if this would be the same.

Re: Metadirectory Engine Location

I am having this issue as well with 4.0.2 > 4.0.2.7. Is there anything
other than a manual patch that can be done?

Re: Metadirectory Engine Location

I would suggest that you apply the patch manually since it is just a file copy procedure.

Have only seen this for the remote loader. (As I think Casper and Will
mentioned earlier).

Do you have both engine and RL binaries installed on same box?

No, the engine and RL are on different boxes. It is the RL that needs to
be patched. I suggested to do a manual patch as well, but it makes the
manager's nervous. Hopefully a second opinion puts them at ease.

Beyond RPM's for the engine, files (jar and libs) or RPM's for Remote
Loader, there was a schema update slipped in there. In one of the 4.5
patches there is an NMAS update slipped in. So for RL you should be
fine. For engine in 4.5 you should take a smidge more care.
