Newbie: fast entry into IDM 4.5

Hello,

I´m remembering about an article in netiq´s cool solutions with above theme.
I can´t find it again.
Has someone a link to this article or an other howto for fast start?
System is running in test mode and 90 days are a short time to find the
answers for the important questions...

I'm pretty sure you'll find it at

https://www.netiq.com/communities/cool-solutions/author/geoffc/
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/author/364.html
or
https://wiki.microfocus.com/index.php/Geoffrey_Carman's_personal_collection

which will narrow the search down to only some 400 articles...

Thanks for all answers
I have some checked already.
ATM I´m struggling with the software itself. Installation on SLES 12 has
failed, so I switched to MS Server 2008.

Installation of IDM seems to be generally a pain.

How/why did it fail? The installer produces error logs that can help

If you have trouble with IDM on Linux, do not expect it to get better on
Windows. Rather the opposite...

Actually not. Curious to see what exactly caused you problems.

Fresh server SLES 12 SP 2 (thx, VMWare!)
1. download eDir 9.0.2, install - ok
2. running ndsconfig (p. 90 of setup guide) - ok
3. installing imanager 3.0 - ok, <server>:8080/nps/imanager.html
accessible, login works
4. download IDM4.5.5, extract to /install/idm455
5. running /install/idm455/IDM/linux/setup/idm_linux.bin

breaks after providing eDir credentials with this message
---
sh: /var/opt/novell/nici/nicimud: No such file or directory
Loader Failed:for spmclnt, error spmclnt: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory, errno 2

found forum entry regarding this problem
---
6. copy dvd content to /install/dvd, copy
idm455/IDM/linux/setup/idm_linux.bin to /install/dvd/rpducts/IDM, run
from there and I could finally install the identity vault

7. have to update identity fault to 4.5.5, runs
/install/idm455/cd-image/install.sh and got this nice message
---
No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation
which requires it.
---

8. starting vmware windows, running the install.sh from gnome terminal
and now the update ends with a nice java exception.
---
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError
/root/idm/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so...
No such file or directory
---

Update to 4.5.5 scheduled...

9. looked on the downloaded Designer files for an install binary - not
found. Also using the designer files from dvd and installed them.

The system isn´t up to date, but running.

So far, so good. 🙂

This is the patch installer, not the full IDM 4.5 installer that you need to
run first

Interesting that this (seemed) to have worked, since you should have copied
/install/idm455/idm45_eDir90_compat/release/idm_linux.bin
--> /install/dvd/products/IDM/linux/setup/idm_linux.bin
and then install IDM 4.5.0 by running
/install/dvd/products/IDM/install.bin
and immediately afterwards patch to 4.5.5 by running
/install/idm455/cd-image/install.sh

> 9. looked on the downloaded Designer files for an install binary - not found.

Designer 4.5.5.1 is a separate download but you really want to install Designer
4.5.2 first (decalred a patch but still a full installer with a newer Eclipse
version) and then do an Online Update from there (Help - Check for Designer
Updates...)

> Also using the designer files from dvd and installed them.

This will Install Designer 4.5.0 which you can only update to 4.5.1.1 through
Online Update. You can patch to 4.5.2 with the downloaded patch installer and
then proceed to 4.5.5.1 but since 4.5.2 is a full installer anyway, just start
form there.

Good luck!

you are right, I copied the binary from the *compat-folder in the
product root.

Oh, I mingled the versions.

Re-installed the idm using the right binary and the procedure seemes to
be successful

But this will not work. Get this error

libXtst.so.6: cannot open shared object file

(available at /usr/lib64/libXtst.so.6, linked to libXtst.so.6.1.0 from 2014)

New investigations:
because you cannot start install.sh from ssh shell (X11 error), I did
this in vmware console getting the error from above.

running same command with full silent parameters in ssh session

../install.sh -i silent -f patchUpgradeSilent.Properties

then the upgrade will work. Wondering...

Just waiting for the download of Designer 4.5.2, reading the docs meanwhile.

try "ssh -Xt" or "ssh -Yt" (depending on your client) and make sure you have a
local X server installed and running.

If you're on Windows, http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/ is free and
works very well. It also integrates with PuTTy nicely. Make sure to enable X11
forwarding in In PuTTy's connection settings as well...

One thing I have noted is that you need both the 64 and 32 bit versions
of the various libraries to satisfy the installer.

You need to add a package for libXtst. Please see the documentation:
