PeopleSoft Driver Crash

We are experiencing a problem where the PeopleSoft Driver on our Windows
RemoteLoader 4.0.2.0 server is fatal crashing. Below is the hopefully
relevant part of the trace from the remote loader server. The three
values are attempting to be written back to the PeopleSoft app. We run
nightly sync jobs that resyncs all of the data for a different portion
of the population each night. This runs fine 99.99% of the time, but on
rare occasion does crash. During one week it might crash 1-3 times but
not again for 2-3 weeks. A total of 70K users are sync'ed during a
week's time. The '#DELETE#' value is what is sent to the PeopleSoft CI
to siginal the need to remove the values for that field.

Interesting. I'm not seeing that here. What PeopleSoft shim version is
this? What version of Tools are you using?

PS Tools 8.52.13

From what I can tell it looks to be the same as PeopleSoft Driver
Version 5.2.1 Patch 1

Hm. Ok, I don't have anything that old here. I'm running 8.53.10 now and
testing 8.53.13 here today.

On startup, mine reports:

<product build="20120601_170505" instance="PSDEVL"
version="5.2.1">Identity Manager Driver for PeopleSoft</product>

does that match yours?

Re: PeopleSoft Driver Crash

I have 8.53.12 in our Test/Dev environments as we are preparing for the
upgrade to 8.53 which is adding to my lack of ability to recreate
exactly in Test.

Mine is also reporting that:
<product build="20120601_170505" instance="PeopleSoft-Student"
version="5.2.1">Identity Manager Driver for PeopleSoft</product>

Hm. In that case, it could be a bug in the older tools version, and
upgrading to the current-ish tools may be all you need to do.

Re: PeopleSoft Driver Crash

Doesn't that stack trace point to the problem being before it gets to
the PeopleSoft Shim? Nothing in the stack trace is referencing any of
the peoplesoft shim, psjoa.jar, or our compiled CI.

It does seem to, yes, but I can't tell if that's because the shim is
where the crash is happening, or because the shim is receiving unexpected
garbage from the underlying psjoa.jar / CI.jar files. Since mine isn't
doing this, and we seem to have the same shim version, I'm *guessing*
that the shim isn't the root cause of the crash. It's just a guess, and I
could be wrone.

Did you ever figure out what causing this? I just started seeing this
exact same problem at a customer running the PS Driver as a remote
loader using the Java remote loader. They had it running local on the
engine server for many years without incident and now I started seeing
this problem.

Wow. That's a lot older than what I'm running here. Are you planning to
upgrade PS to 8.53.13 any time soon?

Unfortunately, that is totally out of my control, other folks at this
customer handle the PeopleSoft environment, I just take what they
provide more or less.

But what is troubling is that this has run for years (at least 7 years)
flawlessly, no problems. The only reason we moved it to remote loader
on the PS server itself was to encrypt the traffic (audit finding). Two
days after we switch to remote loader this happens. So my guess is it
has something to do with running under the Java remote loader, but I
don't know what.

It has only happened once so far, so I'm keeping an eye on it. But the
fact that we saw the exact same error you did means there is something
more to this I think.

Understood. I'm just surprised that they're running a tools version that
old.

Hm. Java remote loader or regular remote loader? I'm running it in the
regular (Win64) remote loader here, and it's working fine for me. I've
not tried running it in the Java remote loader.

Now I may inquire as to why they are so old. But this is manufacturing
sector, so they tend to leave it if it ain't broke. Heck, I had one
customer still using DOS and VLMs over IPX booting from a boot ROM for
their plant floor machines up until a few months ago. It was rock solid
stable, so they never changed it.

This is Java remote loader running run on the IBM Midrange system, so
AIX I believe. It's literally running on the actual PS server I
believe.

So did you ever figure out what this issue was? Are you still having the
problem?
