REST API details

Hello Frineds,

I want to know the details functionality of *REST API's*. The operations
/ functions provided by the REST / SOAP API’s to query eDirectory.

What is the type of customization generally possible eg: to create a
multi-request page for an approver – Create a portlet page, Set up a
workflow to retrieve all pending requests for an approver with
check-boxes or some cosmetic, approver approves and the changes should
be updated using a REST / SOAP API?

Regards,
Amit Singh

REST functionality is provided by the User application, part of the IDM
suite.

The reference guide is here:
https://www.netiq.com/documentation/idm402/agpro/data/bh4pmq8.html

Probably you initially want the Identities service.

This is a different question, approvals are done with workflows, that
have all sorts of fun controls to allow a surprising amount of
customization. If you are not familiar with how Workflows are designed,
consider this series of articles I wrote to try and introduce the
various moving parts:
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/11580/introduction-workflows-and-prds-identity-manager-part-1
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/11582/introduction-workflows-and-prds-identity-manager-part-2

The UI for workflows is also the User App, but the approvals/workflows
are not done via REST. you design the forms/flows via Designer, deploy
it, and then the user can initiate a workflow via the User App web
interface, or via a SOAP call with the neccasary form information provided.

So you want a nicer approver application? There is an iOS app out now,
from NetIQ (Steve says it hit the app store a few weeks back) that
provides much nicer approval interface.

You should be able to 'write you own' by query via SOAP for pending
workflows, then displaying them. You should then be able to enact
decisions via SOAP as well.

The reference is here:
https://www.netiq.com/documentation/idm402/agpro/data/bh4pmq8.html

An example of how to cancel a workflow, using SOAP is discussed in the
articles I wrote here:

http://www.novell.com/communities/node/12187/using-soap-terminate-running-workflow-part-1
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/12200/using-soap-terminate-running-workflow-part-2

And if you start working with SOAP, some interesting errors I ran into
are here:
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/11931/user-app-soap-integration-activity-interesting-errors

There is some information in the documentation. For questions, you would
be better off asking this in the userapp-workflow forum, where the UserApp
people hang out.

Jason Rivard is a great guy. Met him in NYC a few times at customer
sites. He works with the Novell Custom Code/PMF gang (who are a really
nice bunch of guys) and also, on his personal time on PWM. So he is
very familiar with what UA allows via web services.
