RL 4.6 Compatible with Engine 4.0.2.7?

I am doing an upgrade of IDM from version 4.0.2.7 to 4.6.3, including
two remote loaders, JDBC and AD. (The AD remote loader is currently
version 4.5.6.) The documentation says to upgrade the remote loader
before the engine, so I began with the AD remote loader by:

1. stopping the driver and remote loader
2. forcing the remote loader service to *really* stop by setting the
service to manual start, then rebooting the server
3. Running the 4.6 install on the remote loader system, followed by the
IDM 4.6.3 RL patch
4. Restarting the remote loader, then the driver

The remote loader starts up, then says"SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version
number. Identity Manager Error: SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number"

I have seen this error before, but that was caused by the remote loader
service not *really* stopping, meaning that it wasn't actually updated.
I don't think that's the case this time, owing to Step #2 above. What
else should I check? Is the 4.0.2.7 engine compatible with the 4.6.3
remote loader? Can I upgrade the engine to 4.6.3 with the RL still at 4.5.6?

Thanks

You need matching JVM versions under the covers since the JVM it runs in
controls the SSL/TLS versioning/support.

So check your JVM's and make them match.

Engine 4.6.3 with the RL 4.5.6 should work.
