Reporting Issues / How much Value

Hi All,

We have never had Reporting working in PROD. We have it partially working in TEST, I had a case open with support, I installed the Data Collection and Managed System gateway drivers. I think the issue is mainly with the Reporting/Sentinel install and PostgreSQL DB.

I want to know if you leverage native NetIQ reporting and how much value it has or if it may be better to use a SQL driver to export all our IDV data there and leverage SQL reporting.

For instance I get all kinds of errors like these on most reports, only a few reports work, most don't and give some type of similar error message:

An error was detected while running report 'Managed_System_Entitlement_and_Account_Summary': Could not initialize class net.sf.jasperreports.engine.util.JRStyledTextParse r

Thanks!

Reporting and auditing pieces came and went a few while IDM grew up. NAudit was
the first: simple and powerful in collection but did not have any reports out
of the box, IIRC. But one could create database views on the collected events
and do some stats and look for errors or suspicious stuff. I wish they did not
dump it.

Whatever came after that was based on some or another stripped down Sentinel
version and Jasper Reports, and basically produced long lists you could print
out and hand over to someone who would not read them. What an effort for such
little or no use. Never seen it anywhere in production, thats why every major
im release introduced another reporting setup, which did not catch on, either.

Honestly, I have no idea if it is useful now, let me know if you find out. I
would like to see something in the direction of Splunk or Tableau - ineractive,
powerful and easy to use - but my hopes we'll ever see such a thing in IDM are
quite low.

Skypro has an audit/reporting solution based on the elasticsearch stack, which
is probably as close as you can get at the moment.

Hi,

We have multiple customers using Reporting, primarily to get reports
about assigned roles/resources, i.e. when was the role requested and who
approved it etc. For them it's very important to have a "paper trail" to
prove they are compliant when they are being audited.

Usually they don't use the canned reports as-is, we have to tweak them
according to their requirements.

One other thing is that they don't use the Reporting Module UI to
request the reports. Since anybody who is a Reporting Administrator has
full access rights in the Reporting Module.

Instead we create custom workflows in User Application that they run and
then a REST call is made from UA to the Reporting Module to generate a
report and e-mail it.

The workflow can be really simple, for example a manager may only
request a report for his department and that info is sent as a parameter
to the Reporting Module via REST.

I myself haven't used the Managed System reports you are trying to run,
but my experience is that getting the Reporting Module up and running is
really easy.
