Start a workflow using a SOAP call?

Hi,

I want to automate the process of user creation via User App using SOAP
calls.
These are the steps that we would want to follow to reduce the amount of
time that takes for user creation when a request comes from client.

The requirement that we have is as follows:

- The request comes from our external client.
- They enter the required user details.
- Then these request are sent to the User App
- User App will process that request by calling the create user
workflow at our end
- Thus reducing the user intervention and freeing up our admin from
this task
- All these above steps would be processed using a SOAP calls [The
application sending these request would be ServiceNow]

Are there any documents or reference links which talk about or guide us
how to get this executed?

Please assist...

Greetings,

1. These two steps are really just one:
- Then these request are sent to the User App
- User App will process that request by calling the create user
workflow at our end

The soap call to "start" will pass all of the required data for the WF.
If all of the data is there and the request is from an "authorized"
user then the WF will start.

2. Here is the link to the Provisioning Web Service section in the
Administration Guide for IDM 4.5:

Are these applicable to version 4.0.1?
Or do we need to have a separate driver to accomplish our requirement?

Workflow and Engine did not change much from 4.x to 4.5 in the context
of what you are asking, so yes, it would apply to 4.01 as well.

I cannot see from your description why you would need a driver.

If your data source for users is automated, then a driver would be the
way to go. If your data source here is manual, a workflow is the way to
go.

If your data source is something that requires a web service endpoint to
push users into your IDV then a SOAP driver or a workflow is the way to
go.
