WIN2K8 64 bits, Novell IDM run on 32 bits jvm

Hello,

Is that possible to tell Novell IDM 4.0.1 (64 bits) running on WIN2K8
R2 64 bits to use a jvm of 32 bits instead of the 64 jvm shipped with
the installation ?

Regards,

I assume you mean the engine; the engine will match the architecture
(x86_32 or x86_64) of the eDirectory installation so if you installed a
certain architecture of eDirectory that would be a way to match. Why
you would want to do this, I have no idea.

Good luck.

Re: WIN2K8 64 bits, Novell IDM run on 32 bits jvm

I asked this question because I am facing this issue
http://forums.novell.com/netiq/netiq-product-discussion-forums/identity-manager/im-engine-drivers/452151-notes-client-workstation-win2k8-r2-unsatisfiedlink-error.html

It's advised to use 32 bits jvm instead of 64 for the application to
resolve this issue : 'February 2010 - lekkimworld.com'

So this is my last resort if I have no solution

Regards

Your problem only requires that you use a 32 bit remote loader (with
your notes client)

There is no problem having a 32 bit remote loader communicate with a 64
bit IDM engine (it's recommended that the remote loader and engine are
running at the same IDM version and patch level though)

I'm assuming that your remote loader and notes client are on a separate
machine to your IDM Engine.

I just read your thread more carefully and you see that my assumption
was somewhat incorrect.

However, you should still be able to do this. However you need to run a
32 bit remote loader for the notes client on the same box as the 64 bit
Engine.

IDM4 offers the option to install both 32 bit and 64 bit remote loaders
as part of the install. Simply configure the 32 bit remote loader to to
communicate with the notes client.

The docs actually recommend that you use a remote loader even when you
run notes and IDM engine on the same box.

"You should always use the Remote Loader with the Lotus Notes driver,
even in a local installation
like this one. Using the Remote Loader has the following advantages:
* An exception in the driver caused by the Lotus Notes APIs doesn’t
cause the Identity Vault
(eDirectory) to shut down.
* The driver has its own Java memory space, which helps avoid heap issues."

Re: WIN2K8 64 bits, Novell IDM run on 32 bits jvm

alexmchugh thanks a lot,

But is that normal to put Lotus Notes Client on WIN2K8 R2 Box ? as
WIN2K8 is not listed within supported OS list from IBM 'IBM IBM Lotus
Notes 8.5.2 System Requirements - Windows - United States'

So the summary of the install ( correct me if I am wrong ) is

- A box with IDM ( Vault & Engine)
- A box with Lotus Notes client and Remote Loader
- Domino Server BOX ( is there any steps to perform on domino server
?)

Regards

Officially, that is a question for IBM not NetIQ/Novell.

Keep in mind that if it is supported to run on Windows 7 x64, then it
will likely run on Windows 2008 R2 x64 as the two operating systems
share the same OS revision.

That will work and is the config I'd go for.

I thought you were asking about one box that ran both IDM Vault /Engine
(64 bit) and Notes client (32 bit) + IDM remote loader (32 bit). This
should also work. For some reason the official Novell/NetIQ docs
recommend this combination (Engine + RL connected to local Notes client
on one box) as the default.

You can run the RL + lotus notes client combination in this case from
a XP, vista or Win7 workstation
