jboss_init not working

I have a new UserApp 4.0.2 install on redhat. UserApp runs fine if
started from start-jboss.sh but if started from jboss_init start, it
does not start. It gets as far as echoing the start command but it
never actually starts. The server.log is not updated because it never
actually starts. Has anyone else seen this? The jboss_init file is
present and matches the file on other servers. The userApp and Jboss
install logs show no errors. The installs seemed to be completely
successful. Jboss can be stopped using jboss_init stop but it cannot be
started.

Re: jboss_init not working

Get some debugging output and post it here between code tags (the '#'
symbol button in the web interface:

Code:
--------------------
bash -xv /etc/init.d/jboss_init start
--------------------

Greetings,
This is a known issue with JBoss, that the init script they provide
does not work correctly on RHEL. I thought that a TID was created about
this and what you have to do to get it to work.

Is this the TID that you are referring to, 7012659?

Greetings,
No. Here is 1 of them that I was thinking of:

https://www.netiq.com/documentation/idm402/readme/data/idm401_readme.html

"JBoss does not automatically start on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

The default jboss_init script that is provided by JBoss for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux does not work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. JBoss will
not automatically start with this script.

To work around this issue, you need to perform the following steps:

Add the following text at the top of the file:

### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: JBoss
# Required-Start:
# Required-Stop:
# Default-Start: 3 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 6
# Description: Start/Stop Script for JBoss
### END INIT INFO
Add the jboss_init to chkconfig.

"

Re: jboss_init not working

Steve's suggestion was part of the solution. In addition, we had to
modify jboss_init. In the jboss_init script $JBOSSUS was defined as
RUNASIS, but the script was using $JBOSS_USER which wasn't defined.
There were 3 instances of $JBOSS_USER which we changed to $JBOSSUS.
Once the script was fixed, we were able to use it to start and stop
jboss. Once the script was added to chkconfig, the service
automatically loaded at boot.
