upgrading from 4.5.x

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for best path to upgrade IDM 4.5.x installations to 4.7.1. Most customers have 4.5.3, a couple with 4.5.1 or 4.5.4. So, first idea was upgrade in place to edir, Engine and Applications 4.5.6, a couple weeks to "stabilize" and after that upgrade migrate to new servers with edir 9.1.x and 4.7.1.

But, looking at patch 4.5.6 documentation, I found two informations:

2.0 System Requirements
This service pack requires the following product versions:

NetIQ Identity Manager 4.5, at a minimum

NetIQ Self Service Password Reset (SSPR), at a minimum

3.0 Installing This Service Pack
You can upgrade to this service pack from either Identity Manager 4.5.5 or 4.5.4. The process for installing the update depends on the web server that you use to support the applications.

So, may I upgrade from 4.5 or necessarily from 4.5.4/5?

Looking at IDM 4.7 documentation, should upgrade engine from 4.5.x to 4.5.6 and after to 4.7 but applications can go from 4.5.x to 4.7. Make this any sense?

If yes, is supported to have an hybrid Engine 4.5.6 with Applications 4.5.3 (or 4.5.1) as upgrade step?

Best wishes,

Upgrading from 4.x should be to upgrade to 4.5.6 first.
If you are on 4.5.3 that upgrade is a one step.
Then upgrade eDir to 9.x. Latest supported is best.
After that upgrade to 4.7 and apply sp1.

This is engine side.
When it comes to the user application that is a diffrent story.
You can go directly from 4.x to 4.7 Since its not an actual upgrade. Its a replacement/migration.
What is important is to use the drivers for the version of userapplication you currently Run.
Sspr is also compleatly independent.
What is important is that osp/sspr/applications are from the same release cycle. The important thing being osp here.

If the step are fully supported, hmm. That might be another issue.

I would say you dont need any time for stabilization before going to 4.7.

Hi guys, sorry for late response. I've opened a SR and support told that is possible to update to 4.5.6 form any 4.5.x, not necessarily applying 4.5.4/5.
