BenchMark Testing - Performance data from production environment

We are having a live application in production.now we are going to upgrade that application.for this we are planning to do a benchmark testing.the customer does not have the performance results of the current application.
Performance testing was not done prior to deploying this application in production.
how to gather the performance data from the current production environment and use that as a baseline for our benchmark testing.

Do they use any tools to monitor this application? What kind of app is it? What backend platforms are being used , HTTP servers, app servers, database server?

Re: BenchMark Testing - Performance data from production environment

The easy place to start is the production web server logs. With luck, they configured the server to log response times. If not, you will need to either work with the middleware group to get response times recorded, or move on to a more controlled monitoring strategy, such as BAC, AdventNet, or WebMetrics. The latter is a good place to get a head start, since you can leverage a 30-day trial to get some early performance data.
