Desktop application performance testing

I'm working on set of products which are all desktop based. But they have some server components (processes) installed on same machine always running. Now I want to detect protocol for these kind of applications. I have tried to use Protocol Analyzer but it is getting stuck after recording few events and I need to kill LR instance. So I'm facing difficulties finding right way to test these kind of applications.

Re: Desktop application performance testing

Thanks Praveen for your response. Will it be valid if we capture timings with RDP? Have you done this earlier with desktop applications. I think this would be easy to do but just curious about your point of view.
