J2EE diagnostics module-setup config

We only plan on having <5 or 10 application probes applied at any given time. Can we use the LoadRunner controller to act as a diagnostic server in Commnader mode or does the diagnostic server need to be on a separate machine, load generator, etc. from the Controller?
Thanks,
Betty

yes it is always a good option to have the controller and diagnostics server on separate machines.during the load test the controller will be busy with collecting the data from the load test.if you have the diag server also on the same machine then it will not give you the proper results

Oh yes, you absolutely must have the Diagnostic Server as a separate machine, and a pretty hefty one at that. Firstly, the throughput is tremendous. Secondly, the server archives a lot of data and requires a good amount of space.
