Moving LR 11.52 to PC 12.20 next month! Which option is best for us? Need to make a call today!!!

We are moving LR 11.52 to PC 12.20 next month and we have already identified PC architecture. We got total 9 VM servers...1 ALM, 1 DB, 2 PC with LB, and 5 Hosts.

First Option: We don't want to use the existing ALM QC 11.52 and DB server for PC since we want PC architecture completely independent from ALM QC. So we can avoid the unavailability of both application at the same time if we upgrade one in the future. Want to and manage separately.
Question: We already have 200 license of ALM QC.
Can we split the license key and install it on both ALM Servers(ALM QC & ALM PC)?

Second Option: if we use the existing ALM QC for PC also....do we need to upgrade it from ALM 11.52 to ALM 12.20 before enabling the PC extension?

Which option is best and why? Please advise!

It's a good idea to keep QC and PC environments seperate and independent so that any downtime on one of them for any reasons (upgrade, system failrues, availability etc) will not reflect on the other setup and the users can continue to use the other environment. This is a recommended approach

About your questions:

For option 1: If you split the existing ALM licenses then your users can use both environments combined for only that many users. Meaning if you split 100 each to ALM and PC environments, each of them can only accomodate 100 users max while right now your ability is upto 200. Also since the QC current setup is on an older version, you will anyway need to request a new license for 12.20. Best best would be to obtain seperate ALM and PC licenses for PC setup so they both can exist seperately. ANy kind of split or new license requests need to be routed through your HP Account team in Sales. Please reach out to your rep for discussing possible best option around this

For option 2: Yes if you want to use the current QC environment for PC12.20 setup, you will need to upgrade the existing ALM Server from 11.52 to 12.20. They all (ALM, PCS and Hosts) need to be on same exact version and patch level. No need to specifically install any PC exptensions on ALM Server. ALM installation already includes this as part of base version setup

Hope this helps!
