Unique once parameter behavior with Run for 3 hours in ALM

Hi All,

We have script where we have userid parameter with setting unique once.

userid

user 1

user 2

user 3

user 4

user 5

Question 1: So when we run this script in ALM for 3 hours for 3 virtual users only (even if we have 5 users). Will it assign first 3 user1,user2 and user3 to 3 Virtual users and run multiple iterations for 3 hours with this userids?

Needed behavior

            Iteration 1         Interation 2        Interation 3        Interation 4

VU1      User1                User1                  User1                 User1

VU2      User2                User2                  User2                 User2

VU3       User3               User3                 User3                User3

Question 2: What is the difference between Run until completion and run for, if I am running for 3 hours?

Re: Unique once parameter behavior with Run for 3 hours in ALM

Hello

Q1
To have this behaviour, you should use parameters with the following settings:
   Select next row: Unique
   Update value on: Once

When out of values: Continue with last value

Q2
Run until completion will run the Action-block only once.
Run for 3 hours will run the Action-block, wait the time specified in pacing, run the action-block and so on for 3 hours.

Re: Unique once parameter behavior with Run for 3 hours in ALM

Hi Pratik,

Unique once will exactly works as you mentioned below setting is absoultely correct.

  Iteration 1         Iteration 2         Iteration 3        Iteration 4

VU1      Userid1               Userid1             Userid1            Userid1

VU2      Userid2               Userid2             Userid2            Userid2

VU3      Userid3               Userid3             Userid3            Userid3

But you need to select continue with cyclic manner option to maintain the same flow for 3 hours. As you may have lesser userids to take uniquely , it starts from the beginning after selecting the cyclic manner.

The difference between the Run for and until completion , if you want to acheive the desires TPH and need to check the consistency of the application for specific period we will go for Run for (Duration methodology).

The second one Run until completion is used when we need specific iterations need to complete but no duration constraints. So depends upon our requirements we will choose our options.

Hope it will help you .

Surya Kosuri.
