Why not have snapshot on demand in Truclient?

Jump to solution

Hi,

I run into this every now and then: During a loadtest I often encounter occasional errors. Sometimes these are due to erroneous behaviour of the AUT and sometime it's scripting error. To debug these issues, I often turn to snapshot on error and the error log. Unfortunately that does not always provide enough information of what went wrong and your left in the dark as to what the real cause was. The problem with TruClient snapshot on error is that often the actual problem occurred X steps before the snapshot was created and you are looking at a snapshot that doesn't give any real clue as to what went wrong. For this I would like to always enable snapshots, but in a loadtest that is a no go since it generates way too much data.

This made me think... Why not have an option or special step in TruClient that will force the creation of a snapshot no matter what. In that way you could program the generation of snapshots into your script (even make it conditional if you like).  So if you know the erea of teh script where something goes wrong, you just program in one or more snapshots. That would generate far less snapshot data but would provide more flexibility to the debugging process. You could even make it an option to every step that interfaces with the UI.

Question to HP: is this someting to consider as a feature request? I know a functionality like this does exist for the Citrix scripting protocol, why not have it for TruClient?

Regards,

Peet
