How to diagnose TruClient-Vusers stopping with error "Failed to Initialize. Reason: TimeOut"?

(LR 12.53 / TruClient / Win 7 SP1)

We're testing the scalability of a new load generator PC (2 x Xenon E5-2650 2,3GHz, 20 cores / 40 threads, 96GB RAM). Here we see a few Vusers stopping (due to timeout during initialization) shortly after the ramp-up period.

At this time the load generator was not saturated with the 80 Vusers (Windows resources: Processor Total Max 44%, Average 4%   Available Memory: Min 78GB).

The controller init-timeout was set to 500 seconds and the scenario ramp-up is 10 minutes:

I couldn't find any useful information on the controller (result folder) and the load generator (c:\temp\brr_*\).

Now I'm wondering how to diagnose this issue?

Please make sure that the LG have access to application.

Is this happening on LR 12.53?

Do you have Antivirus enable?

Hello Daniela,

yes, the LG has access to the application, all LGs are up-to-date (LR 12.53) and Antivirus must running on every Windows PC (no, chance to disable AV -> finance).

Is there any log file (controller, LG agent / service) containing details regarding this timeout?

Where is this timeout configured (in Controller options the init-timeout is set to 500 seconds)?

Btw. why are these timeout errors reported for the generator "Controller"?

No, the controller is not referenced as generator for any group in this scenario. And yes, on the controller is no LG agent / service running 🙂

While fiddling with different controller init-timeouts, ramp-up durations and delays between Vuser initialization I always ended up with a few Vusers being stuck in status "Initializing" on the same LG:

Does LR provide any any debug option to examine what is happening here?

Is there any log file giving some insigths about the details of the stucked communication?

And no, the corresponding LG is not saturated (20-core-CPUs 95% idle, 78GB of memory left) and the event log doesn't contain useful information. Yes, AV is running on every Windows box (disabling AV is no option - finance).

Hi,

Can you please check what happens if you use a more moderate ramp-up?

Unlike Web HTTP protocol, TruClient Vusers are quite intensive in terms of resource consumption and their initialization is time and resource consuming. Using a slower ramp up can help avoiding the issues you have described

Are you trying to run 800 vusers on the Controller?
