Questions about Virtual Table Server (VTS) capabilities

Jump to solution

My questions are regarding how to use VTS with HP ALM Performance Center/Load Runner 12.02.

I have referred below posts in HP forums.

Virtual Table Server Enhancements in LoadRunner 12.00

The New Virtual Table Server (VTS) in LoadRunner 11.52

/t5/LoadRunner-and-Performance/The-New-Virtual-Table-Server-VTS-in-LoadRunner-11-52/ba-p/6069435#.V_chH9IcTIU

What I need to know is;

  • Can we use separate data tables in VTS for each Load Runner scripts?
  • For an example, TableA for ScriptA and TableB for ScriptB etc?
  • How do we make calls to access the data in each table using Load Runner code? I am interested to see code snippets for this. So far what I have seen is ;code snippets for single data set.
  • I am hoping to use 1.7 Millions of records for one table. Is this possible?
  • If I used big data sets, can I update the sections of data using SQL statements?

If anybody can point me to a guide for using new VTS capabilities (with code snippets in Load Runner) , that would be great.

Does this VTS version 12.53 work with Load Runner 12.01 and HP ALM Performance Center 12.21?

Re: Questions about Virtual Table Server (VTS) capabilities

This is regarding my first question about using data tables and I have below queries. Would be great if those can be clarified.

For an example,

Load Runner script A uses a data table (tableA) created from a csv file and it has two columns called userid, cname and bname.

Load Runner script B uses a data table (tableB) and it also has same two columns called userid, cname and bname.

If this is the case, how do we get retrieve data based on column as both data tables/data set have same column name? In code, is there anyway to specify this in code?. Below is the code I found in most of forums and blogs.

RetrieveMessage()

{

   lr_start_transaction("retrieve_column");

   rc = lrvtc_retrieve_messages1("cname",";");

   lr_log_message("lrvtc_retrieve_messages1 rc=%d\n", rc);

   lr_log_message("cname is %s", lr_eval_string("{cname}"));

   lr_end_transaction("retrieve_column", LR_AUTO);

}

Action()

{

   RetrieveMessage();

   return 0;

}

Hello

To at least answer one of our questions, from version 12.0 is is possible to use multiple table instances. This is what you are after since the data for script a and script b is not common. Each instance then have an own port, that is specified when connecting. Then the code is the same for both script A and B.

The overview for LR 12.0 shows how it is done in the UI.
