What is the name and the location of the Loadrunner Controller's Version 12.62 crash or dump file?

Jump to solution

I have opened 2 service requests that mention the Controller Version 12.62 is crashing (it also crashes the same way with Version 12.60) and the technical support agents do not know the name or the location of this file.

When the Controller crashes on my system, it posts a pop-up window which allows you to tell the Controlller to save the DUMP or CRASH file. But no name or location of that file's location is given.

This crash is always occurring when you simply resize/resposition the Transactions window which is one of the commonly used pop-up windows within the Controller software. You do not even need to be running a load test for this crash to occur. Simply place a simple script on the Design tab, then click on the Run tab and then try repositioning/resizing the Transactions window.

You can also move the Transactions window over the Controller window. The Controller software may then include the Transactions window WITHIN the Controller's window. Now attempt to drag the Transactions window OUTSIDE of the Controller's window and the crash will occur.

The solution to this issue REQUIRED a HOT FIX to the Controller software from Microfocus Loadrunner Technical Support. This problem exists in Versions 12.57, 12.60, 12.62 and 12.63 of the Controller software. The HOT FIX that was provided by Loadrunner R&D prevents you from integrating the Transactions Window ( or other window, such as the Error Window) WITHIN the main Controller window. Such a restriction prevents you from trying to DRAG the Transactions Window into a separate Window by itself which is when the Controller Crash would occur.

Please contact Loadrunner Technical Support for more information regarding the HOT FIX for this problem.

Hello

The pop-up window which appears is the generic one for Windows application. If you want to have control over the location where crash dumps are created, I would recommend following the steps detailed bellow:

1. Create a crash dumps folder called C:\Dumps.

2. Modify the following registry keys as below:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting]

"DontShowUI"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps]

"DumpFolder"="C:\\Dumps"

"DumpType"=dword:00000002

"DumpCount"=dword:0000001e

3. Start\Restart Windows Error Reproting service. Make sure Start up type is set to Automatic.

Regards,

Sinziana

Hi

By default windows can save the dump in the following location %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps

If not there, you need to follow Sinziana steps to setup automatic dump collection.

Best regards,

Marcel
