Licensing Error with LoadRunner CLIControllerApp.exe

Hi,

I am currently doing some R&D to incorporate LoadRunner into our devops pipeline by leveraging the LoadRunner CLI tool as documented here: https://admhelp.microfocus.com/lr/en/12.60-12.63/help/WebHelp/Content/Controller/scenario-run-cli.htm

We are currently using the LoadRunner Community license to trial this out, but I cannot seem to get it to work. I am able to open up the Controller App and kick off tests with the community license without any issues, however when I try to invoke the CLI Controller App, I get issues.

The command I am using is:

.\CLIControllerApp.exe -TestPath "C:\Dev\LoadRunner\Scenarios\BasicScenario.lrs" -Collate -ResultName "C:\Dev\LoadRunner\Results\"

The output I am getting from the console is:

Controller is starting...
Connecting to server...
Wait CLICntrlService_Ready_Event timeout!
ConnectToServer: FAILED

When I review the wlrun log, I can see the following error in the logs:

ERROR HP.Cntrl.CntrlEvents.CntrlEvents - Failed to report controller error. Error code = InvalidLicense, Message = There is no valid license.

My question is - why isn't the Community License being recognized by the CLIControllerApp.exe? Is there something we can do to fix this?

Re: Licensing Error with LoadRunner CLIControllerApp.exe

As the error message says, you need LR license to use the CLI tool. I tried in my licensed controller and successfully able to do it.

Here is the CLI log.

Controller is starting...
Connecting to server...
ConnectToServer: SUCCESS
CollateAndAnalyze Activated!
LoadScenario
Setting results path...
StartRun
WaitForScenarioEnd...
Run Finished received
Collate results...
Start Analysis...
Controller is closing...
Controller closed successfully.

Re: Licensing Error with LoadRunner CLIControllerApp.exe

What type of license do you have installed?

If the tool doesn't work with a community license - I am wondering whether VUD licenses will work? Or will it only work with perpetual licenses?
