Apple ID password

Whenever each and every app or app update is rolled out to our iOS devices you are prompted for the AppleID password. Is there away to get around this?

What version of iOS? I didn't think that iOS 7 prompted for this any
longer.

You should see the password prompt go away, then.

Re: Apple ID password

jmarton,

I am runnning ZMM 8.2.2 on my 2008 Server and all iPads are either 7.0.3 or 7.0.4 but I am still getting the pw prompt for installation or updating of apps. I have even checked the config and confirmed the "Force iTunes Store Password entry" was removed. Please correct me on my understanding of this setting if I am wrong. With this setting "On" it will force PW for install and updating of apps....with it "Off" no password required for updating apps...just new apps. Again, please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks!

I found out a little more about this. Apple still requires users to
enter their passwords on iOS 7 after all, and the only time the prompt
isn't there is if the user has entered his/her password within the past
15 minutes. Passwords are cached for 15 minutes is why that occurs and
is true whether an MDM solution was used to deploy the app or the user
installed it manually.

There's only one way that Apple has provided in iOS 7 to disable the
password prompt, and that's to put the device in supervised mode using
Apple Configurator. What you'll need to do is use Configurator to
place it in supervisor mode, import the ZMM profile into Configurator,
use Configurator to push the ZMM profile to the device to enroll it
into ZMM, and then going forward you should be able to deploy apps
silent to iOS 7 devices.

BTW, here's a link to the ZMM docs which discuss integrating ZMM with
Configurator.

Re: Apple ID password

jmarton,

Thank you for taking time and responding. The PDF shared is the same one I followed this fall in setting up our elementary school iPads. Unfortunately, I am still being required to provide passwords for app installs. It is the updating of apps not asking for passwords. Please let me know if there is something else I need to check in hope of resolving this issue.

So have you put the devices in supervised mode?

Re: Apple ID password

jmarton,

Yes sir. I have established a profile for each grade level and distributed the profile via AC after exporting it from ZMM. The other frustrating piece is that the profiles are not synchronizing APN communication either.

Re: Apple ID password

I am seeing the same function for this. I was really hoping to manage both Single User devices and Shared Devices completely through an MDM solution. I created my K-2 grade levels each with a profile and deployed a few iPad mini's with the A.C. method to place the profiles on the device. I found that I couldn't deploy apps correctly and when I then attempted to Sign into the device with a generic Username/password I would just get random strange issues within ZMM.

1. Some of my devices would just create a new version of the original device username even tho the name used was unique for each iPad.
2. Some devices only pushed the ZMM sync information but no APN value at all just a N/A
3. I also noticed that my Single User profiles will start to get multiple devices for the same user. Yet the devices are actually the same phone or ipad. I had an older SR opened on this which resulted in the SE cleaning up the DB. But that only latest a version or two. Since 2.8.0 I am seeing this again. It seems to be with the same device/User that will not stay synced.

On top of what dmantz is stating and what I have above, The sync process is a pain in the but. I was accepting that this might just be how things are in the Apple iOS / MDM world. But in talking with several other district on what MDM solution, including dmantz, I found that not all MDM solutions are having this issue. Meraki seems to have a sync process that can be prompted at the Web dashboard and will show a status icon on how long it has been since a sync. I plan on getting a deployment of Meraki and possibly another product setup within the next week to test this option as well.

Perhaps I have been a little to willing to accept that the Sync issues with this product are just how things work in the MDM world and Apple. I can't imagine that Apple really expects this type of issue to be occurring with their products. This would be a disaster for anyone to deal with. I have the benefit of having most of my clients in the same town for the most part. I can't imagine having a few of my end users having to deal with removing the MDM profile and reloading the config every other month or sooner on a continuing basis. I have an SR opened after complaining about these issues but that has seemed to have stalled right now. Will get back with that tech and see what is going on.

I can tell those of you at Novell that the product has some promise. I like the new 2.9.0 Filr configuation feature. But I have some really unhappy end users right now. I am already in a very anti-Novell environment and it is getting hard to keep my end users excited about this stuff when simple things are preventing them from working like they want.

Re: Apple ID password

As a follow up to rhuhman, I revisited one of our elementary iPads that continued to fail with communications back to the ZMM server. The iPad 2 had been running 7.0.3 and setup with a profile exported from ZMM and installed via Apple Configurator. In attempting to get communication reestablished, I uninstalled the original ZMM exported profile and then updated the iPad 2 to 7.0.6 using Apple Configurator. In doing so, the ZMM profile was reinstalled in hope of communication starting back up. Unfortunately, the reinstallation of the ZMM profile using AC did not work. I even left the iPad in my office over the weekend in hope of APN pushes and required apps being reinstalled. Sadly, no communication between the iPad 2 and ZMM. Therefore, I ask, what can we end users do in getting this resolved? After all, I did follow the Novell documentation http://www.novell.com/documentation/zenworksmobile29/pdfdoc/zen_mobile_ios_configurator.pdf
