Updating ZMM on iOS

What is the proper way to update the client on an iOS device? We used zmmupdate.novell.com/apps from the ZMM docs to install it in the first place.

You update it from the same place 🙂

Re: Updating ZMM on iOS

technomoney,
Are you wanting to update the clients automatically, with the client not having to do anything, or just have an easy way to allow the client to update their device?

What I have done is use the Web Clips option within ZMM to provide an icon on the device for update. The end user still needs to do the update, which honestly is extremely hard to get them to do.

In talking with an Apple Engineer on this issue and since this limitation is due to Apple and not Novell, he indicated no plans to allow auto-updating for Enterprise apps. He did indicate that it is always helpful to submit a enhancement request for the option but the Upper-Management people who make those decisions have been unwilling to allow this when asked about it in the past.

I would love to hear other options that might get this working more efficiently. Android updating is a lot easier since it does the update for you.

Anyone have a good strategy on how to get the end users more cooperative in updating the clients? I e-mail out the request using ZMM but most never do the update.

Re: Updating ZMM on iOS

The one thing I have found when updating the ZENworks app via Novell's Enterprise app site is the app updates but grays out all information. We have attempted to resolve that issue on iPads by shutdown/reboot as well as hard reboot. Unfortunately, I am typically finding that I need to remove the app and profile then reinstall the app. Please understand this is not happening on all iPads but several of our student iPads. Thus, I would suggest the webclip approach as @rhuhman mentioned. When you create the webclip, use the following URL itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://zmmupdate.novell.com/apps/ZMM.plist As this was the way we could get the app to update without it graying data out and needing to be removed/reinstalled.
