iOS Apps Mass Deployment Issues

Is ZENworks MM be able to remotely install the iOS Apps to the iOS devices (I know that it will be necessary to manually input the Apple ID during the installation) ?

I did try creating some Mobile Apps in ZENworks MM and using the "Install App" button from the "iOS MDM Settings", "Installed Applications" by double-clicking each user / device profile, but I got the error message "Could not verify App ID" from the Rejection Reason.

Also, I have checked the iOS MDM Log and found that there are some problems in processing the "Install Application" APNs command, the error message is "CIOSMDMCommandBase::CheckStatus" (Function Name) and "Device returned ERROR status" (Details).

Any help will be really appreciated.

It should work, and I demo iOS app deployment to customers all the
time. How are you defining your iOS apps? Apple made a recent change,
only supporting http for the app store URL for each app, so if you're
using https (the default URL you'll get if you do something like a
Google search to find the app store/iTunes preview URL fo ran app),
that could be the issue.

Re: iOS Apps Mass Deployment Issues

Hi Jmarton,

It works after changing the "https" to "http" !!!! Thanks for your great information about the recent "http" change from Apple.

I have a few more questions about the iOS Apps Mass Deployment:

1. Is it possible for ZEN MM to deploy a .IPA (iOS Apps) file to the iOS devices directly so that we can skip the step of manually input the Apple ID ?

2. I found that it takes a very long time for the "Managed Apps" and "Installed Apps" (iOS MDM Settings, Installed Applications) to update its statistics, even I keep clicking the "Refresh" button, is there any way to speed up this update process ?

3. What will be the main use of the TouchDown settings from the Policy Suites ? What's the different from the other restriction settings in the Policy Suites ?

Really appreciate your great help.

Yes, if you use the enterprise app store.

I believe that's goverened by the device connection schedule.

It's used to manage Android devices running Touchdown. This gives you
additional management capabilities. Basically, on Android, there are
three levels of management.

ActiveSync only
ActiveSync + ZMM app
ActiveSync + ZMM app + Touchdown

To see what you can do in the various scenarios please take a look at
this doc.

Re: iOS Apps Mass Deployment Issues

For question 1, do you mean the enterprise apps store from Apple ? Could you please give me more details of how to create an enterprise apps from a .IPA file ? Is it involve a lot of tedious steps ?

Thanks !

I've not setup an enterprise app store so I'm not sure how tedious that
is, but once it's going it is very simple to define a mobile app in ZMM
and upload the *.ipa.

We don't necessarily have a doc on creating an enterprise app store
since that's an Apple process, but we *do* have a ZMM doc that
discusses how to distribute the ZMM iOS app as an enterprise app. It
gives links to some info on setting up the enterprise app store.
