Currently, after a device is discovered in NNMi using a FQDN or hostname it is then transfered to using the discovered management IP Address of that device at the time of initial discovery.
In DHCP heavy environments where reserved IP's are more of a nuisance than a saver (such as DOCSIS CPE deployment, moving device from CMTS a to CMTS b or bundle a to bundle b) however hostnames are easily updated and "static" with ddns involvement. It would be a nice addition to NNMi to allow for it to be able to select/configure a "management hostname" instead of a "management ip" and have the discovery process enable the updating of the IP Address inventory upon a change detected to the hostname lookup vs cached entry or on device down, poll DNS to ensure the NNMi cached management IP has not changed vs the authoritative server.
