It is not possible to use COBOL words longer than 31 characters in Net Express.

The new directive IDENTIFIERLEN allowing to use COBOL words to be longer than 31 is only supported in Visual COBOL.

Why is it not possible to become a netexpress 6.x Version with the new possibilities from visual Cobol?

The upgrade path after Net Express 5.1 is Visual COBOL.

There is no Net Express 6.x. Perhaps, there is Studio Enterprise Edition 6.x, which uses Net Express IDE, but it is basically Net Express 5.1 with mainframe support. Studio Enterprise Edition 6.x has been superseded by Enterprise Developer.
