NA change detection

Jump to solution

Hi,

We use NA 9.0

In our network we connect to devices manually with ssh and make some configuration changes. NA detects the changes and record it. But it does not show who made the change. It just write N/A to who changed area.

NA can detect this information if you do....
the Change via NA Proxy or
if you send syslog change notification messages towards NA or
if you use the log reader on the ACS server or if you do the change with a NA Command Script Job.

Even then it might be not 100% accurate e.g if two users are on the same Box.

100% accurate information who did a change you can get only on a AAA (e.g. ACS) Server log.

Hi,

Thanks for answers.

Do you mean this;

If somebody makes change on a device with direct ssh connection with a tool like putty, the device send a syslog message and NA understands who made the change ?

Yes if the device is properly setup e.g. IOS will send a "configured by xxxxxx" syslog message to NA.
The main advantage is that NA knows immediately that a change has happened and it will pull the latest configuration from the device after a short period of waiting time. So NA will not miss any change versions, which will happen if you just schedule a 24 hrs recurring Backup.
The other advantage is the NA can quite reliable match a change to a user

All the other mechanisms like the usage of the NA Proxy will trigger the same.
