Re: Address not responding

Hi there,

Let me first try to give you some background information on how NNMi works here and this will hopefully explain what the options are.

Statepoller performs all the monitoring of the device "objects" e.g. IP addresses, interfaces, sensors etc.  If the "state" of any of these change then it notifies APA.  APA then analyses the situation using a set of rules and will create "conclusions".  These are then applied to the containing objects within the device and will have a severity associated with them.  The conclusions can then affect the status of the higher objects, up to the Node status.   Some conclusions are configured to issue incidents, some don't.  Also not all conclusions bubble right up to the top to the Node.   All of this is configured in the "Causal rules" and these are not configurable.

The control you have over the display of status is via the UI configuration menu at   Configuraiton->Status Configuration.     Here there are twooptions:

1) Propagate most critical

2) Customise the severity displayed based on the percentage of the child status objects.

So to answer your question.  The IP address not responding incident will be generated ( assuming it does not become a secondary incident to another primary incident ).  You can enable/disable the incident and configure it as you wish, however its status will be propagated to the node but you can control this ( albeit on a global basis ) using the Status Configuration values.    This is limited though.

  All the best

Dave Y
