Frequent Address Not Responding Alerts

Hi Experts,

NNMi version: 10

OS: windows server 2008

We are getting frequent address not responding alert

I understand that alert Indicates an address is not responding to ICMP, but all the interface IP icmp ping response is working fine, all the links are up and running.

But still we are getting these alerts and not able to conclude what is the issue, although status tab shows the status change time but network team is confirming that there is no issue with ping.

Please advice how to solve this  problem.

Re: Frequent Address Not Responding Alerts

The best approach is to open a support case and work with one of our engineers to investigate what is going on.  Typically I would get a network trace of some of the devices showing the problem and then analyse the timings of what is going on.  The most common issue is the configuration of the retries and the timeouts for the devices.  These need to be tuned so that the device responds before NNMi times out the requests.  The network trace can help identify what values to use and can confirm this is the problem.  Other problems could be firewalls blocking and dropping packets, overloaded slower and less capacity links leading to packets being dropped etc.  So an investigation may be needed and if you need help then open a case.

  All the best
