Managing optical switches using HP-OV

Hi,

 

We are working on building a SNMP based agent for optical switch. The aim is to manage this SNMP based switch through HPOV. Managing means – entire FCAPS functionality should be supported. Generic expectations include discovering devices, configuring devices, polling device information, monitoring traps, taking actions as required on the device etc.

 

We are looking for answers to the following queries -

1. In general, what all products from HP OV portfolio is required for managing a standard network device (e.g. switches)? Do we need to use anything more than HP OM and or NNMi ?

 

2. Is there a way / method to identify the need for developing Smart Plugin (our is an optical switch and not a regular Ethernet switch)?
