NNMi 9.24 - Unmanaged Nodes remain in "normal" state

Jump to solution

Hi Everybody

I discovered an issue, which should not be like this.

When unmanaging nodes, no matter if "out of service" or "unmanaged", some of them will keep their last status for example "normal".

Since the node is unmanageable I can't start a status poll and when managing it, it will become a "critical" state.

In the "Help for Administrators" is clearly described, that unmanaged nodes will become a "No Status" state, but sometimes it doesn't.

Does anyone else having this problem, and how can it be solved?

Thank you in advance

Best Regards,

Simon

Hello Simon

What's happening here is that when a Node Management mode is changed, a notification is sent to the Causal Engine (CE) module and it should update the Node's Status. However, under certain circumstances, specifically when the system is under heavy load it could happen that the notification is lost and therefore the CE does not see the update.

If this happens sporadically then you may not want to worry too much about it, but if it happens frequently please do log a support case for further investigation.

You can work-around this problem for a specific node by running the following command:

/opt/OV/support/nnmtwiddle.ovpl invoke com.hp.ov.nms.apa:service=NmsApa clearConclusionsAndStatusOnAllObjectsInNode <hostname>

The command will clear the node status and set it back to No Status.

Hi,

I have run into a similar issue with the CE not recognizing ports that are connected to an unmanaged device, and reporting them down. Could this also be a result of a missing notification?

Hello,

What do you mean "not recognizing ports", and how does NNMi report them Down, via Incident (InterfaceDown) or simply with Critical Status in the UI?

Thanks

Yes, NNMi reported them Down, via Incident (InterfaceDown). I meant that the CE did not recognize that the interfaces were connected to a device that was unmanaged and thus should not report them as Down.
