NNMi Blackout Polling

Question came up about putting devices in blackout or temporarily suspend polling until a core datacenter switch is rebooted.  How does NNMi decide which devices to poll. If we blackout all core switches would that prevent NNMi from polling downstream devices and mitigate false positive alerts? Thanks - John
