NNMi Support Tip: nnmbackup.ovpl is failing pg_dump when Oracle is in use (Linux)

Hello Community,

When doing a backup in NNMi using Oracle as the main database, you may find the following error as below in red. For instance, let's say you have two NNMi servers using Oracle as the database postgress has never been installed. Why does one try and backup postgress and the other doesn’t?

# nnmbackup.ovpl -type online -scope all -target /tmp/nnmi_backup

Unable to backup tables when using an Oracle database.

NNM backup operation completed successfully!

# nnmbackup.ovpl -type online -scope all -target /tmp/nnmi_backup

Trying pg_dump....

Problems encountered while saving the database schema - please review the following

possible issues:

pg_dump: [archiver (db)] connection to database "nnm" failed: could not connect to server: No such file or directory

        Is the server running locally and accepting

        connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

Backup operation failed.

Recommendation:

As you may know, the nnmbackup.ovpl script on 9.2x uses the following routine to determine the DB type. So you might want to check out the /opt/OV/nmsas/common/deploy/nnm-ds.xml file and see what it looks like.  The two variables default to “0” or false and should only be set to true if it finds the respective jdbc entry in the file.

===========

sub discoverDatabase {
    my $dataSourceXml = "$OvInstallDir/nmsas/common/deploy/nnm-ds.xml";
  ...
        m%<connection\-url>jdbc:postgresql:% && do {
            $POSTGRES_DATABASE = 1;
        };
        m%<connection\-url>jdbc:oracle:% && do {
            $ORACLE_DATABASE = 1
        }
    }
    close(DS);
}

============

Please note nnmbackup.ovpl is not meant to be used for Oracle....page 39
