NPS ASECONTECTSERVER error

Jump to solution

Hi folks

I've started receiving the following error from the NPS ASE DB server. I noticed this during a failed backup.

Msg 840, Level 17, State 2:
Server 'ASECONTENTSERVER', Line 2:
Device 'device1' (with physical name
'D:\ProgramData\HP\HPBTOS~1\NNMPerformanceSPI\contentstore\data\device1.dat',
and virtual device number 4) has not been correctly activated at startup time.
Please contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role.

Is there a way to fix this or should I start from scratch?

Thanks

Hi,

Does the file 'D:\ProgramData\HP\HPBTOS~1\NNMPerformanceSPI\contentstore\data\device1.dat' file actually exist on the system?

If not, you may want to create it (empty) using the equivalent of Linux "touch" on Windows and restart everything to see if it helps. It is possible that some disk space issue had prevented it from being created when needed at some point.

Knowing that it is a WIndows environment, check also Event Viewer for any events that would have occured during the backup, especially during the backup of the Content Store.

You can also check the current ContentStore service using "statusCS.ovpl" to see what is said here.

If a restart of the NPS does not help, the best would be to collect the diags (collectDiagnostics.ovpl) and raise a case to support to have the issue naroowed down further. The diags will provide among other things the ASECONTENTSERVER.log files, along with the history of the backup attempt in the main prspi.log as well.

Note that the document pointed out in the Support Tip issued earlier could help increasing logging on the Content Manager and Content Manager cache services:

All the best

Hi,

Did you use the System Administrator account for running backup? What's your currrent NNMi version and NPS version? Also please let me know the OS version that you are running.

Please make sure you are using the System Admin account for backup NPS DB server.

Hi Labuss,

Is there anything else we could help you with on this discussion thread?

Have the issue been finally isolated and fixed and/or is there now an ongoing case opened to support to narrow it down further?

If no more help is expected on this thread, would you mind marking the most appropriate post as Accepted Solution so that we could close this discussion thread?

This is because we are periodically reviewing the Open discussion threads to determine if any help is expected further on them, hence when it is no more the case, the best is to close the discussion thread by marking any appropriate post as Accepted Solution. I may proceed and do so myself if no more activity is observed on this topic after a couple of days and you have not closed the discussion thread yourself.

Many Thanks

Marie-Noelle
