NPS-Reports with included user

Jump to solution

Hello everybody.

We use NNM 10.10 with NPS.
In Sharepoint we got links/bookmarks to dedicated reports. You have to log in in NNM when you open this reports.
Colleagues and managers from other section should see this reports too.

I know there is a possibility to include an user (i.e. guest) in the bookmark, but don't know how.
Do anybody have an examble?

Regards
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

What you can do is create a new menu item accessible from the NNMi console and associate a menu context with it, where you can specify, among other things, both the URL you want to launch and the minium required NNMi Role that you can set to Guest. Then, you can use the 'Integrate NNMi Elswhere with URLs" Quick Reference Guide (accessible from Help -> NNMi Documentation Library -> Integrate NNMi Elswhere with URLs) to launch directly the menu item.

Below are the steps:

  1. First, select an object (Node, Interface or Node Group) and launch the desired report. Select all the relevant options (Group By and Metrics), Time Controls and have the report launched. In the example below, we'll select an object of type Node Group.
  2. Click on the “Show Bookmark” link on top of the report and then copy the complete bookmark URL and paste it in notepad
  3. After copying the above text in the notepad editor, ensure that the full text is in one line only and there are no line breaks as seen below.
  4. If  your had specified a nodegroup when launching your report, but your requirement is to dynamically have the value for a selected NodeGroup from NNMi topology, you can replace the nodegroup with “${name}” (Without double quotes) in the URL
  5. Go to the NNMi “Configuration” workspace then open "User Interface" then "Menus"
  6. Create a new Menu called "MyReports" with an unique key such as "my.personalized.reports", an Author set to Customer, and a parent menu set to Actions for instance
  7. Then, open the “Menu Items” link and create a new Menu item and associate a menu context with it (This context will be a URL you want to launch). Select the appropriate “Selection Type”, “Object Type” and “Required NNMi Role” inputs.
  8. Add the New Launch Action and paste the URL you have placed in notepad editor. “Save and Close” the Menu Context, Menu Item, Menu forms to make sure your menu details are saved.
  9. Then, “Log Out” from the NNMi console, close the browser, relaunch it and then see if the new Menu item appears for a Node Group object or not.

Note that you will need to have one menu item for each object type that you want to specific in the context. In the above example, the Object Type was set to Node Group, but if you want the action to apply to another object type, such as a Node or an Interface, you'll have to do the whole procedure again that is to say:

  1. Selected a desired object

  2. First launch the report from that object

  3. Customize the URL by formatting it

  4. Then create a menu item.

Once it is done, you can refer to the following NNMi Online Documentation accessible from the NNMi Console:

Help -> NNMi Documentation Library -> Integrate NNMi Elswhere with URLs

which will show you the way to launch a menu item directly from an URL:

http://<host>:<port>/nnm/launch?cmd=<command>[&<command-specific-parameters>][&j_username=<username>&j_password=<password>]

      cmd=showMenuItem (See Help)
            cmd=showMenuItem&key=<menuItemKey>[&<object-identity>]

Was it what you were looking for?

Please let me know if it helps.

I may create a Knowledge Document describing the same.

All the best

Hello Carlos

Thanks for posting,

First of all i want to say that sadly there is no way to have people log on and get the report from NPS. This would require all circumventions of security built into NNMi and NPS.

Now you can create a guest user in NNMi, this user will have access to all the bookmarks you have created. You do not need any extra configuration to accomplish this.

Go to configuration > Security > User accounts (create a new user)

Once the user is created go to configuration > Security > user account  and map the user just created to the guest account.
mapping

Access NNMi using the guest account and open the bookmark.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Hello Vincent

Thank you very much for answering.

A colleague has tested a few year ago a bookmark with a guest user included, but he can't find it anymore. It was in the Version 9.20.  For this reason i know, that this possibility exits.

The idea is, that managers can see selected actual reports with clicking just a link. It sounds smarter, then writing down a guest-user with his password on a website.

Carlos
