Pairwise configuration in NNM

Hello All

We receive 2 alarms as below,

bigipLtmVsUnavail
bigipLtmVsAvail

1st alarm comes with custom attribute with value "SNMP_TRAP: Virtual /Common/devssocim-redirect_vs has become unavailable"

2nd alarm comes with custom attribute with value "SNMP_TRAP: Virtual /Common/devssocim-redirect_vs has become available"

The middle part in the custom attribute "/Common/devssocim-redirect_vs" can change

Is there any way to do pairwise correlation/configuration between 2 alarms.

Re: Pairwise configuration in NNM

Hello ramesh9,

as you might see the pairwise matching criteria does not support pattern matching for the value of a varbind or oid. Here the text from the online help:

Type the specification required to confirm the identify of the first incident in this logical pair of incidents. Provide one of the following:

  • The SNMP trap varbind Abstract Syntax Notation value - ASN.1 (OID)
  • The SNMP trap varbind position number
  • The Custom Attribute Name value (see Custom Incident Attributes Provided by NNMi (Information for Administrators) or the Name column in the table on the Incident Form: Custom Attributes Tab of the Incident you are configuring as a member of this logical pair).

A workaround would be to use an action script for the original traps, which extracts the needed part and to generate new traps with that matchable parts as varbinds. You can then use those varbinds as matching criteria.

HTH and kind regards

Allessandro

Re: Pairwise configuration in NNM

Hello

Yes, we can do this, but it will generate more alarms in NNM console, which we want to avoid.

Is there any other solution to this.

Hello,

Please find attached pairwise configuration document which we configured for BGP traps.
