loading ips to nnm database issues

Jump to solution
when using loadhosts command in NNM, I have a server with 2 ip address and both have entries in the DNS but once using loadhosts command to load into NNM they show up as 2 different hosts. How do I get this to show up as 1 node with 2 interfaces.

Hi SHavor,

If both the IPs associated with the node resolve to different DNS then yes, NNM will create two nodes ; one for each IP-DNS pair.

However, if both the IPs resolve to the same DNS then this should not be an issue.

Tapan.

Hope you can add the node with one IP & if the node responds to SNMP when you poll [nmdemandpoll] the node manullay after adding into NNM the second interface must be automatically discovered.

Whatever exists is changeable and what is not changeable does not exist.

Hi,

If you have SNMP enabled on the machine, then when you execute a demandpoll, NNM should figure out its the same machine.

What is the platform of the server? If windows it should have the required MIBS.

Can you down a snmpwalk on the machine?

Hi Shavor,

Firstly enable SNMP on the node. Assign correct SNMP string and then do status poll to that node.

This should work.

Shavor,

I am not experienced in Linux, but the below procedure must work there also.

Add the 2 IPs to the hosts file in the following format

x.x.x.x NAME
y.y.y.y NAME

where x.x.x.x & y.y.y.y are the 2 IP add of the machine and NAME is the Name of the Server.

By default Ssystem will look at the hosts file before making a DNS query.

If any node is identified with 2 IP address, it will be considered as gateway , Single Symbol with 2 IP addresses.

Hopes it will work.

Regards
