-1497 error after users moved home

a couple users suddenly hitting this after starting to work out of home

Client for OES 2 SP4(IR13)   mostly updated in the last week, worked for a few days before users went home as part of COVID-19 social distancing

one user is RDPing to their box (via VPN) and it only applies to her profile.  another profile(used for the update) works just fine.  even reverting to an image from two weeks ago with IR12 hits it as well

another user has his notebook at home,  but we haven't had the chance to analyze it yet.

as per https://www.novell.com/documentation/nwec/nwec/data/al2oa8w.html

suggests a licensing issue, but how would that hit a Windows 10 work station

Hi Andy,

did you try to disable nmas in extended client options?

Re: -1497 error after users moved home

Are ZCM DLU policies involved?

Is there a relation to the server you login initially?

Is it a mixed tree (DS 8 and 9)?

I believe so

Is there a relation to the server you login initially?

it is a consistent server as far as I can tell

Is it a mixed tree (DS 8 and 9)?

yup,  versions as per ndsrepair -T
40105.08 most
20812.21 3 left
10554.34 1 left

my father-in-law in the hospital and now COVID-19 has put a stop to the migrations for now.

Re: -1497 error after users moved home

#1 reason for 1497s is covered here

https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=3576402

There are other possible reasons involving the backend, it might be interesting to

- log on locally to a NB

- connect via VPN

- login / logout manually by ip address to all servers one by one

In any case disabling nmas login on the client itself should work around the issue (as a quickshot to get someone to work)

In my case disabling nmas helped my customer.

@Rimser What method did you use to disable NMAS?

Re: -1497 error after users moved home

It's just about disabling it in the "advanced login" section of the client properties. But this will effectively disable Universal Password, so it's just a quick workaround rather than a longterm solution.

Yes, I know. In my case it was only one machine out of many. They needed a quick solution because of home office requests. If I am allowed to travel again I will start deeper investigations 😉

Re: -1497 error after users moved home

disabling NMAS did the trick

so that gets us going for now.  next steps to investigate why this happened, but that can happen when things stop bouncing so much.

If I am allowed to travel again...

If?   I'm sure it's just a when, though that may only be once a vaccine has been perfected and well deployed before we get the ability to travel anywhere like what we've been used to.  Of course that might be in the range of late next year <sigh>

as a work around it did the job.   Also remembered that we finally applied a Universal Password Policy the week previous, so that could also be a part of the picture.  Lets see when we find the new normal that allows me to dig further.
