Any pointers for ZCM 11 / Win7+Client 2 / Vmware View 5

I want to get my desktops to VDI - Vmware View 5

Win7+Client 2 / ZCM 11

Most desktops to be non-persistent (yet they need to have AV updates)

Can not find any good pointers for such setup

Thanks

Nobody wants to share knowledge?

Because I can not believe that nobody is using it this way?

Really? Nobody using it?

I’m one that is using Win7x64 with NetWare, OES2 & OES11 and W2K8R2 (DC) in a virtual environment with ZEN11 on the W2K8R2 (DC) – I don’t have any ‘non-persistent’ desktop as that they will need the updates provided by the Anti-virus software installed on each – (I know that they could be protected by an Antiviral software installed on one of the Servers instead. However, it suits our needs for now. I had some issue with the ZCM client and the Novell Client which most was resolved by the release and installation of the newer clients. The other issue were either hardware, configuration or some other minor mishap (such as assigning the wrong subnet address to a Server and expecting the Workstations to connect to it.) - - - Good Luck!

Using it like that in small environments (upto 30~50 desktops), and looking to expand to bigger setups. One big difference is it's mostly XP. Win7 is still in the test phase and will come in play later this year.

There are some things to consider with non persistent desktops and ZCM:

-ZCM agent cache at first startup/login (and related to this, where are your (WG)policies coming from?)
-Virtual apps vs traditional installs vs what's included in the golden base image?
-re-registration of the desktop in ZCM, or better said a clean removal of the device when the VDI session gets destroyed (can be scripted at WS shutdown, but have not really dove into that yet)

How far are you with your setup and would like to know your ideas as I'm also working on expanding our current VDI setups as well.

Cheers,
Willem

Honestly I am at the design stage, as I have no time to actually sit & do it. But will within a couple of months.

Collecting all ideas for now.

Gave up on trying DSfW, as IDM sync from eDir to AD works great (and is... well... much simpler to setup)

I think I will do all policies via AD, and also authenticate against AD (so no DLU in ZCM, especially that I have few services running on Windows Servers that are accessible to staff, so it makes it easier - no double authentication requests)
Will probably stay with Client 2 for file access, make most apps virtualized with ZAV

Starting with 30 PC, but will probably end up with ~250+ all in all
