Apache error log file grows to GBs instantly??

Hi, need some ideas as to what might be causing the Apache error log to
expand almost instantly to what ever free disk space is available on the SYS
volume. I stop it by running NVXADMDN, then delete the log file so I can get
my space back. The start up recreates the error log file and it sits at 0
bytes until the next time it happens. I just wish I knew what was causing it
to happen. Any Ideas?
NetWare 6 sp5, GroupWise 6 sp4 using Net Manager, NetWare Webaccess,
IFolder, GroupWise webaccess, IPrint, Netstorage, Apache (1.3.3), tomcat33.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Apache error log file grows to GBs instantly??

Thanks for the reply Anders. This anomaly has happened twice in 5 days. Both
times the file grew to 4 GB. I was not able to open the file with any app I
have. Maybe I should rename it and transfer to a WS and open it up?

Yes. It might very well be that there is a clue in that file.

Anders,
If or when if happens again should I post to this thread or start a new one?
Doug
and thank you for your input. I just read some background on your Islands
nation. Very interesting.

Just post here. I can think of two possibilities:
1. Apache bug - goes beserk
2. DOS attack - log filling up with millions of requests

BTW, have you set apache to rotate logs?

Re: Apache error log file grows to GBs instantly??

Anders, OK I will post here. I have not changed a thing (updates) in this
server for 18 months and apache has not been a problem at all. It just
works.
DOS attach from outside? I have BM 3.7 sp3 on a separate server protecting
the perimeter. Apache version is 1.3.10. Should I upgrade to the 2.x
version? Netware 6 sp5 currently.
How do you set Apache to rotate logs? Access log and Error log. I have never
attempted. Didn't know you could?
Thank you again for your input.

No. Use whatever the latest 1.3.x is. Download from www.apache.org

Ah, this is NW 6 😉 But yes, there should be a rotate log directive for that
version of apache as well. Have you looked in adminserv.conf?

Btw, are you running one or two instances of Apache?
