Arcserve Install Problem

I am having all kinds of problems when trying to load Arcserve 11.1 sp 2 on one of my servers.

A little back ground on the issue:

I had to reinstall Arcserve on my Netware 6.5 SP8 server, so I deleted the Arcserve folder from the SYS volume. I forgot to delete the Arcserve objects out of C1, so I deleted the objects out of C1, then deleted the Arcserve folder from Sys Volume.
I tried to reinstall Arcserve and I am getting the following error everytime I try to reinstall.

A fatal error has occured. This program with terminate. You may check C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell\ni\data\ni.log for more details after you dismiss this dialog.
com.novell.application.install.InstallLocation

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Hello,

you have tried to install Arcserve 11 SP2 (not SP3?, please get it if
possible) started from a windows worksstation with novell client
(version?) onto a NW server?
Does the novell-account have admin rights to do so?
It is also possible to install Arcserve "directly" on the the server
when you use the gui of netware ("startx" at the console prompt, copy
the cd to a folder on a netware volume of this server or use the local
CD). (according to memory five years ago)

And what did you find in there?

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Sadly I don't have access to 11.1 sp3. I ran the install from a Windows XP PC with Client 4.91 sp4 onto a Netware 6.5 sp8 server.

I'm using the admin account that has rights to server. I have not tried loading directly from the server, I will give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestions!

According to
https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/phpdocs?filePath=0/3371/111/Readme_NW.html
CA can send you SP3.

Which version of XP are you running?
Which Service Pack is installed?
Which version of Java is installed?

Note also that there is a later Novell Client available for XP - 4.91
SP5 (IR1) @ http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=YgCXopUnLTM~

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

I was finally able to get ARCserve to install on my server! I had to follow this from CA

https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/solndtls?docid=430226&os=NETWARE&aparno=QO90195&actionID=5&fromKBResultsScreen=T

I was able to get past the fatal error I was getting.

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Here is my new problem:

I was able to set up a backup on this server. It did not run like it was supposed to. I'm not sure what this new issue is, and in the end I almost think I'd be better off restarting the server and trying to schedule a new backup.

When starting ARCserve I had to do a bstop/bstart before I could get astart to finish loading properly.

Now when I try to go in and modify my job, it only shows me the volumes that I had already selected. It does not show me any other directories that I know are there to choose. When I try to schedule a job, it acts like it does not know the volumes are there, and so it is only showing me the Tree.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Hello,

you have booted your server after insatllation of AS 11?
What is your config of smdr and slp on this server (AS11 relies on SLP)?
Am i right you see the server object in AS-Manager but no volumes
beneath but just the edir-tree symbol (Screenshot of AS-Manager)?

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Hello,

in

https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/kbtech?docid=380551&searchID=TEC380551&fromKBResultsScreen=T

CA says:
Nwagent build 872.000

ARCserve Manager build 3060 or 3104

Resolution:

This is a known issue using the r11.1 build of the BAB NetWare manager
(build 3060 or 3104) and Nwagent build 872.000 that ships with BAB r11.5
for Windows. If you select the whole server or whole volumes, the backup
will complete successfully. You must use the r11.5 manager from the BAB
Windows product (build 3884) to expand the volumes on the NetWare
servers. This will be resolved in the service pack for the BAB NetWare
product.

=> you really seem to need SP3 for AS11!!!

Re: Arcserve Install Problem

Hello,

to get further help you may try:

https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/phpdocs?filePath=0/3371/111/Readme_NW.html

and

ftp://ftp.ca.com/CAproducts/unicenter/AXNBAS/netware/GA/QO87332/readme_English.html

To get the files you may try if you have still a support contract with
CA, the files for AS11.1 SP3 Netware were on their download sites but
now they have been put away:

ftp://ftp.ca.com/CAproducts/unicenter/AXNBAS/netware/GA/QO87332/readme_English.html

Regards and good luck

Burkhard
