Authenticate with a Windows Service to access NCP volume

Hello,

I need a Windows Service to access an NCP Volume.
The server is Windows 2008 R2 and I have the latest version of the Novell Client (IR5).
It seems the services just cannot access OES servers.

Can we do it?

Thanks in advance.

If the service isn't eDir-aware, don't think there is much you can do -
there are workarounds for Win2003 and below but Win2008 and later
(including Vista) uses a different security model so I doubt those
workarounds work.

As Peter says, unfortunately not working in Novell Client 2 SP1 (IR5)
or earlier versions of the Windows 6.x clients unless your Windows
service makes either Windows WNet API calls with customizable
credentials, or the service code is fully Novell-aware and makes
Novell API calls directly.

There is a solution currently targeted for inclusion in the upcoming
Novell Client 2 SP1 (IR6), which provides for transparently logging
into an eDirectory during Windows service startup. Provided that
testing of IR6 doesn't uncover issues requiring major redress, both
the fix and IR6 should be available within the coming four weeks.

But no workaround for current shipping Novell Client machines to do it
via NCP; if the service supports using remote file system paths over
CIFS, than perhaps CIFS access to the Novell server would be a
near-term solution.
