Backup Exec Information.

This may be of interest to users of Backup Exec Ralus:- Backup exec Ralus does not work of SLES11 SP3. Found this after the upgrade from SP2. I know this is the wrong forum, but should OES go to the next level service patch:- be warned.

Re: Backup Exec Information.

Are there any errors that you can share to help others find this when
searching or troubleshooting? Thank-you for the heads-up.

Good luck.

Re: Backup Exec Information.

A further heads up. Symantec have released in July 2013 a Sp2 for Backup Exec 2012 with a new hotfix for Ralus. After testing, I still cannot get this to work with SLES11SP3, though I have not rebpooted the server. If I get a positive result after I do a server reboot (sometime in the next month) I will report back.

Cheers,

Re: Backup Exec Information.

Symantec have now released SP3 for backup exec 2012 with a new Ralus client patch. It still does not work with SLES11SP3:- they certainly need to get their finger out before OES moves to this platform!!

Warning!!

Still no Backup exec Support for SLES11 SP3 so if you are thinking of upgrading to the new OES11 SP2:- be warned as it is on SLES11 SP3. So there will be no working backup until Symantec get their finger out!!

Good luck on that. I don't really understand why people put up with symantec
any longer. They have some of the worst support in the industry. I will even
go as far as to say worse than even MS.

I didn't see that in the release notes, do you have a link to where they state support for SLES11SP3?

Note "work" doesn't mean supported. SLES11 SP3 is certainly not listed
in Symantec's Software Compatibility List (SCL) for Backup Exec 2012[1]
which was created (I think they mean last updated) on 14-Mar-2014, the
day after Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 4 was released.

Since this is an OES product forum I'll also note that OES11 SP2 is not
listed in the SCL.

Personally I'd rather use a backup solution that is supported.

Like I said it work with SLES11 Sp3, but I didn't try with OES11 Sp2. And they didn't write in the notes that it is supporter.

Well we need money to change a backup solution! 😉

Okay, that is strange that they did not make a note of SLES11SP3 support... But what I've heard is that if a backup vendor supports SLES11SP3 then it will also automatically work for OES11SP2.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't see any version of SLES11, let
alone SLES11 SP3, mentioned at either the above URL or the linked SP4
Release Notes.

By "work" have you also tested you can restore ... ?!

This is where your company gets to decide how much your backups are worth.
