Certificate Expiry

I've been nailed by this one before: Certificate expires, and certain services fail with little explanation (digging into logs or scrolling through console will eventually turn up problem)

Have I got something misconfigured elsewhere, or is this normal?

Thanks.

Re: Certificate Expiry - clarification

By that I mean: should I be getting some sort of notification that expiry is imminent? Can I set something up to let me know before?

The default expiry is 2 years. You can create certs manually with a
much longer lifespan.
