Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR11 Beta 20181108a) for Advanced Authentication Integration

For anyone who is interested in Advanced Authentication integration
with the Client for Open Enterprise Server, and/or has been using the
first phase of Advanced Authentication integration that was delivered
in March 2017 with Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR6):

A public beta build of the Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4
(IR11 Beta 20181108a) has been made available, which contains the
implementation of the next phase of integration between Advanced
Authentication and the Client for Open Enterprise Server.

This build can be downloaded from the beta site at
https://download.novell.com/protected/Summary.jsp?buildid=Wi0SPaKnUnI~

The primary change with regard to Advanced Authentication integration
is that the IR11 client now provides the ability to utilize the Client
for Open Enterprise Server credential provider to manage the Advanced
Authentication + eDirectory + Windows logon experience.

As compared to the previous IR6 through IR10 integration behavior,
which depended on the NetIQ Advanced Authentication credential
provider to perform a Windows-only logon; followed by a secondary
eDirectory-only login through the Client for Open Enterprise Server in
a manner similar to "Login with Third-Party Credential Provider".

The download contains a .PDF file which illustrates the new
integration behaviors which will be available as part of Client for
Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR11) when released. Note the last page
of the .PDF also contains a list of known issues or behaviors which
are not yet working as of the IR11 Beta 20181108a build.

The window for feedback on further changes or improvements to the IR11
Advanced Authentication integration behavior closes in about two weeks
from now. Any input will be gladly accepted whenever you can provide
it, but two weeks is just when that feedback might have the best
opportunity to affect the actual IR11 release.

The actual IR11 release will be at some point soon after that; but
contingent on any remaining issues or behaviors QA identifies and the
time required to address them.

Replying to this forum message with any feedback is fine, and we will
get it routed to the team best able to address or respond to it.

Re: Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR11 Beta 20181108a) for Advanced Authentication Integration

Note there are two additional "Known Issues" which aren't currently
included in the download's .PDF file:

- - -

4. The "Change Password" option in the "Password Administration"
dialog accessible from the Client menu in the taskbar notification
area does not yet prompt for an Advanced Authentication login prior to
allowing password change operations.

5. When upgrading an existing Client for Open Enterprise Server
installation that was already performing "Phase 1" Advanced
Authentication integration behavior, attempting to choose "Use Client
for Open Enterprise Server credential provider" interactively in the
UI during SETUP.EXE to switch to Phase 2 behavior will be accepted but
will not actually switch to Phase 2 behavior. Upon reboot, the machine
will still be using the NetIQ credential provider in Phase 1-style
behavior.

To work around this issue and actually switch to Phase 2 behavior
after installation, after the upgrade is complete change "Client
Logon" to "On" in the Client Properties and restart the workstation
again.

The .PDF may be updated to include these by the time you download it,
but we wanted to mention them here just to help ensure they are known.

Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR11)

This client update is now released. Note the scope of the IR11
changes were intended to include only issues and fixes related to
Advanced Authentication integration and usage.

Unless you are evaluating or using Advanced Authentication-related
behaviors with the Client for Open Enterprise Server, there is not a
necessity to download or install the IR11 release over your existing
IR10 or earlier existing installed client.

The inclusion of other non-Advanced Authentication-related fixes will
resume in the next release after IR11.
