DHCP lease information missing

We have a mix or OES 2015 and 2018 servers. 2 servers run dns and dhcp. The servers have been in use for a long time. Today I decided to solve the puzzle, why can't we see leases in the java console. I have it narrowed down to this tid. My servers don't have any information in the auxiliary class for dnipDHCPServerVersion. My problem would be solved if I knew what value to add to that attribute after I extend the object. Imanger won't let me leave the value empty.

If you have an OES 2015 or higher running the OES dhcp could you look at the other tab in iMa

Re: DHCP lease information missing

All information necessary is in the TID. Where exactly does what not work for you? You're not supposed to touch that attribute (its contents) manually, just the Schema, if adding the version information via the DNS/DHCP Management Console (do you use a current one?) fails. And then, after you fixed the Schema, you're supposed to add the proper value again via the DNS/DHCP Management Console.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

You need the auxclass "dnipDNSDHCPServerVersion" tied to the NCP server object. It allows for two optionals with CIS syntax, which are named "dnipDNSServerVersion" and "dnipDHCPServerVersion".
I've quickly checked a few networks and whereever i go i have "dnipDNSServerVersion" set to "Novell DNS Server 6.0.0" and "dnipDHCPServerVersion" not set at all. I could imagine that any string value would do it.

The "OES Version of the DHCP Server" (as to be defined in the java console as e.g. "OES 2015+") gets set on the "dhcpVersion" attribute on the "DHCP_servername" object.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

The TID doesn't reflect the error I receive when I attempt to attach the auxiliary class without a value. It can't be empty. Until you have something in the field it will continue to fail. There's actually 2 unattached aux classes on my OES servers, dnipDHCPServerVersion and DNIP:DHCP Server reference. I've tried assigning different values in the Java console software to see if anything was modified in the object. Doesn't appear to have any effects. I guess I need to start a support ticket to get it worked out.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

The auxclass should be named "dnipDNSDHCPServerVersion". It has two optionals: "dnipDHCPServerVersion" and "dnipDNSServerVersion". Do you have the auxclass and the attributes in the schema?

Re: DHCP lease information missing

Yes, the aux classes are in the schema. I tried to extend the schema as part of my troubleshooting. The script ran, said the schema had already been extended. I setup a test system, added to my tree with dhcp. It has a working scope assigned. I poked some random information into the attributes to see if I could work on trial and error, nothing made a difference.

Thanks

Re: DHCP lease information missing

Which version of the Java Console are you using? I just noticed that leases are not populating in mine either, but this used to work with an earlier version. I did some searching, but I cannot find a download for the Java Console anywhere.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

Any updates come with the regular OES patches, so you get them via the "client software" tab on the OES welcome page or directly from /srv/www/novell/clients/dnsdhcp.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

In the help/about section of the console I have OES2018 SP0 2017 2.0.7

Re: DHCP lease information missing

The current one is 2.0.8 (OES2018SP1). But, if configured properly, viewing leases in the java console has been working pretty well since somewhen in the OES2SP3 era. Basically you need the following:

- the NCP server object needs the auxclass "dnipDNSDHCPServerVersion" attached

- in the JC, on the "General" tab of the dhcp server (not service) object, you need the server's ip address added in the "DHCP Server" section

- in the JC, underneath the DHCP service (not server) object, you need a TSIG Key object

- the secret of this object has to have a length which is a multiple of 4, you might want to test with something like "12345678"

- in the "Settings" tab of the server (not service) object you need to have an "omapi-port" setting, i've never set it to anything else but "7911" which is the default

- in the same section you'll have to select the TSIG Key object we've mentioned before from the drop-down-list

That should be all you have to do to view leases, for DDNS to work properly additional step will be needed.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

And it used to work for me and some where along the way, it stopped. I've checked https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7006450 which talks about the settings you mention. No progress. Currently have an SR open and support is looking into it. I'll report back if I have any news.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

Could you post the content of /var/log/dhcp-ldap-startup.log?

You might want to mask some its content, though.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

@raronson   Are you running the console from a Windows PC  and using OpenJDK?  If so, there appears to be a bug in the DNS/DHCP console that needs fixed.  The leases show up fine with Java 8 191 (for example) but fail to appear under OpenJDK 11.0.1.

Re: DHCP lease information missing

Interesting. The machine is running Windows 10. If I open a prompt on the system I can get the following

 >java -version
java version "10.0.1" 2018-04-17
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.3 (build 10.0.1+10)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.3 (build 10.0.1+10, mixed mode)

Re: DHCP lease information missing

This one would work (shall read: it shows dynamic leases...) with W10-64

https://www.azul.com/downloads/zulu-community/?&os=&os=windows&architecture=x86-64-bit&package=jre

Grab the 8u232b18 build.
